ROLE OF ICT IN EDUCATION

ICT nowadays becomes an absolute demand for application in schools . The "information society" in general and in particular new technologies have a significant impact at all levels of the educational world. The new generations are naturally assimilated the new culture that is shaped and often brings us extensive retraining, adaptation and unlearn many things that now "do differently" or simply not serve.

Most young people do not have the experiential grounds of having lived in a society "more static" (as we have known in previous decades), so for them the change and continuous learning for the latest news emerging every day is normal.

Precisely to facilitate this process begins to develop from informal educational settings (family, leisure ...), the school must also integrate the new culture, digital literacy, information source, productivity tool for work, materials, cognitive instrument .... Obviously school students should approach the culture of today, not yesterday's culture.

It is therefore important presence in computer class (and the video camera, and television ...) from the early grades, as an instrument to be used for different purposes: entertainment, information, communication, instructional ... As it is also important to be present in homes and that more children can come and enjoy these technologies in the hands of their parents.

But besides this use and enjoyment of the technological means (in class, at home ...), which will allow for educational activities psychomotor development, cognitive, emotional and social development, new technologies can also help to increase contact with families (as example in Spain already have Internet at home about 30% of households). An example: the development of a web of class (in the web of school) parents will bring the course program, the activities to be done, will post some of the work of children, their photos ... A students (especially younger ones) will love and be supermotivation with it. Parents too. And the teachers too. Why not? It's easy, you can even do simple web pages with Microsoft Word program.

The main functions of ICT in schools relate to:

- Digital Literacy for students (and teachers ... and families ...)
- Use staff (teachers, students ...): access to information, communication, management and data processing ...
- Management of the center: secretarial, library management, mentoring of students ...
- Use training to facilitate teaching and learning processes
- Communication with families (through the center web ...)
- Communication with the environment
- The relationship between teachers from different schools (through networks and virtual communities) to share resources and experiences, passing information, questions ...
