Double Chocolate Pancakes with Strawberry Sauce

My kids found this recipe in my cookbook, Slim & Scrumptious by Joy Bauer, so we decided to make them together for their breakfast. The pancakes couldn't be easier to make and the strawberry sauce was quick and simple too. I adapted the recipe a bit by leaving out the flaxseed (I didn't have any) and I also used fresh strawberries instead of frozen. My kids LOVED these pancakes so much they ate

The essential of the budget in our Life

The Budget – The Ultimate Financial Management Tool. A carpenter uses a set of house plans to build a house. If he didn’t the bathroom might get overlooked altogether. Rocket Scientists would never begin construction on a new booster rocket without a detailed set of design specifications. Yet most of us go blindly out into the world without an inkling of an idea about finances and without any plan at all.

Not very smart of us, is it?

A money plan is called a budget and it is crucial to get us to our desired financial goals.Without a plan we will drift without direction and end up marooned on a distant financial reef. If you have a spouse or a significant other, you should make this budget together. Sit down and figure out what your joint financial goals are…long term and short term.
Then plan your route to get to those goals. Every journey begins with one step and the first step to attaining your goals is to make a realistic budget that both of you can live with.

A budget should never be a financial starvation diet. That won’t work for the long haul. Make reasonable allocations for food, clothing, shelter, utilities and insurance and set aside a reasonable amount for entertainment and the occasional luxury item. Savings should always come first before any spending.

Even a small amount saved will help you reach your long term and short term financial goals. You can find many budget forms on the internet. Just use any search engine you choose and type in “free budget forms”.

You’ll get lots of hits. Print one out and work on it with your spouse or significant other. Both of you will need to be happy with the final result and feel like it’s something you can stick to.

Roasted Chicken with Orange, Honey, and Cumin

I had a chicken that needed to be roasted and luckily it was a cool day so I could do it without overheating the house. I went in search of a recipe online and I found this Mark Bittman recipe that sounded perfect. I followed his instructions except I added a bit of garlic to the sauce and I also stuffed the bird with a bit of cilantro, onion, and more garlic cloves for extra flavor. This chicken

Independence Day : Ceremony & History

Independence is human right...
It must be fought until the end...
Because we are the freeborn...

Independence is the result of struggles...
The manifestation of love...
To our homeland...

Unfortunelly...
After 66 years...
Independence only became the ceremony...

Symbol of  free and easy...
on behalf of freedom...
To gain the aim...
Without caring the other person...

Independent or dead!...
Now, it's only history.

Sweet Seventeen

Happy Independence Day, Indonesia.

Can I ask you guys something? What are the things that make you proud of this country? Aside from food, batik and our rich natural resources?

I have no right to make any point that represents all Indonesians, or Indonesia as a country, because yes, I do spend almost all of my days only in Jakarta, and yes, this is just a personal opinion on how I solely feel as an individual. Everyday I witness ignorance all around, and it can get really depressing. Corruption is everywhere, and has somewhat become a culture. We talk about government officials being corrupt. But look around us. Even a parking attendant who clearly wears a uniform with the text "No Tipping" on his back still receives or demands drivers to give him tip. Even funnier when a parking space is hidden by parking attendants and said space will only be given to drivers who give them tip. I once had a debate on this, where the other argued that tipping parking attendants is 'okay' because it's simply a form of appreciation towards his 'help'. I believe, that when an institution has strictly enforced a regulation of "No Tipping", then we all should just comply with that. It's like a company not allowing their employees to receive gifts from their clients, because 1) it may cause bias and internal conflicts, and 2) it may grow into a (bad) habit. No matter the amount of money (trillions vs. Rp.2.000), corruption is corruption. It's about the mindset.

I have lost count on how many times my car has been hit by motorcyclists who ignorantly just speed away with no apology. Same goes to getting summoned on the road because traffic rules sort of change every now and then, but when I am willing to pay the fine, I am somehow "convinced" to just "settle" things in the illegal way. Then there are 3-in-1 car jockeys standing peacefully on the side of the streets just 10 meters away from a group of policemen. So what's right and wrong? What's legal and not? It seems fine to work out opportunities within the loophole in Jakarta’s traffic management policy, so why come up with the regulation after all?

I am always worried when I see people standing on the outer edge of the (door-less & boundary-less) elevated bus-stop exit/entrance point while waiting for the Transjakarta bus. It's so easy for someone to just fall down when being (accidentally) pushed by someone else on their back, because hey, there's no door or any safety guard, right?

Then seeing people getting punished / processed for expressing their thoughts on the internet, selling products online. What's happening?

I just wish things like these are not justified by 1) luxury, 2) the fact that there are many other less-fortunate people who go through worse things, 3) there are many other (more important) things to think about and take care of, and 4) people just need to make a living no matter how. Flaws are flaws, regardless the justifications and comparisons.

Good night, all...:)

The San Francisco Street Food Festival 2011

SF Street Food Festival

There are so many reasons to go to the San Francisco Street Food Festival it's hard to know where to start. First and foremost, for just a few dollars (nothing is over $8) you can eat things you love like chicken wings, cheeseburgers and ice cream to things you may not have tried before like chicken mole croissants or wax moth larvae tacos(!) The festival takes place in the Mission district along Folsom Street between 22nd and 26th. It begins at 11 am and goes until 7 pm. It's also a fundraiser for the presenter, La Cocina.

La Cocina is a non-profit incubator that has helped many successful local food businesses get up and running and the festival showcases many of the entrepreneurs in their program. Some of their graduates include Clairesquares maker of the highly addictive milk chocolate crunchy oat flapjacks, Azalina's luscious Malaysian food an Off The Grid stalwart (and featured in Bon Appetit not long ago), and Kika's Treats. Cristina aka Kika is currently offering a gooey Brazilian cheese (gluten free) bread you must try. Other clients include Donna of Love & Hummus. Her organic hummus is silky smooth and comes in unique flavors including my favorite, roasted lemon and thyme. More favorites? Anda Piroshki and El Huarache Loco who makes the antojitos or Mexican snacks that Alemany farmer's market shoppers adore (count me among their fans).

You will also find some famous local and not-so-local restaurants at the festival too. Been dying to try the food at Flour + Water, Commonwealth, Wise Sons Deli? They will all be there. Last year I fell hard for the chicken wings from Nombe, the succulent cheeseburger from 4505 Meats and the matcha gobs from Gobba Gobba Hey. I have no idea what will win me over this year but I can tell you I am planning on trying the banh mi taco from the Peached Tortilla from Austin TX, La Victoria Bakery pan dulce (you may have read that Luis Villavelaquez has revamped the recipes), Beijing's lamb skewers and the sweet potato pie waffle with bourbon caramel sauce from Pinx. Plan ahead by perusing the full list of vendors.

Last but not least, the festival could just as easily be called the International Street Food Festival. There will be food from all over the world with vendors who are originally from places like Japan, Russia, Malaysia, Mexico and Africa. If you still need encouragement, check out the slide show to see just a few of the smiling faces and to get a preview of the ridiculously delicious food. See you there?

Heelo Cloning or Competitor of Twitter?

Google +, Facebook, Twitter and here is the new comer HeeloLook-alike microblogging service launches a day after Twitter rolls out its own photo-sharing service. A review of the newest social media web site Heello delivers to mind the particular outdated declaring "imitation could be the sincerest kind of flattery. Thus, will be Heello any go with to be able to Twitting or even a blatant rip-off with the well-known micro-blogging program?

Bull crap or perhaps a great aspiring challenger?

Advancement about Heello started out concerning this past year simply by Noah Everett as well as the staff on the photograph revealing internet site TwitPic, which usually any time started in '08 has been created in order to discuss photographs effortlessly about Twitting.

TwitPic provides given that gotten an image revealing web site which you can use self-sufficient regarding Twitting at the same time, yet it appears that the particular start regarding Heello can be a a reaction to Twitter's start regarding a unique photo-sharing companies in which take on organizations just like TwitPic

Now, the two services work pretty much the same.

Messages posted on Twitter are limited to 140 characters, just as they are on Heelo.

If you want to write a message directed at another user, add the @ symbol in front of their name and they'll see it in the "replies" section of their timeline., messages on Heello are called pings, not tweets.
In  Heelo  are Called echo in Twitter, re-posting a message isn't called a re-tweet.

On Heello, you don't follow another user, you listen to them; you don't unfollow someone, you unlisten them.

Twitter's timeline of tweets only updates with newer messages manually. Heello's timeline of pings updates automatically.

Heello can integrate with a Facebook and Twitter accounts, enabling you to post to those networks from Heello, but not the other way around.

Without any differentiators between your 2 providers to date, an additional query involves thoughts -- the reason why make use of Heello rather than, or even along with, Tweets?

Caramelized Onion and Potato Frittata with Ham and Swiss

I was going to make a really simple frittata for dinner but I changed the ingredients once I saw this recipe on What's Cookin' with Mary? What goes better with eggs than caramelized onion, potatoes, ham, and cheese? This dish took a few extra minutes to prep but it was worth it! I loved the flavor combination - all of the ingredients just work really well together. My husband and I both REALLY

DIY Easy Clothing: Twisted Kimono Shrug

Another simple styling of shawl into a different level of clothing: shrug with kimono look-alike.
I used Delisha's patterned shawl and 3 (three) pins
1. Twist the center of shawl
2. Wear the shawl, with the twisted part below your chest
3. Pin the back of the shawl to your shirt (see a similar step here if it's not clear enough)
4. Pin the sides of the shawl to the sides of your shirt (to create sleeves)

Done!
(If you want it more secured, pin the twisted part, too)

Turkey Italian Sausage, Mushroom, Marinara, and Ricotta Pasta Bake

This recipe is a mouthful to say but it is absolutely delicious to eat! I had a jar of marinara sauce to use up as well as some turkey Italian sausage so I decided to make a pasta bake. I loved how creamy and moist the ricotta made the pasta and I really enjoyed the chunks of Italian sausage in every bite. This dish was a big hit with the whole family (except my daughter who doesn't like cheese).

Centro Most Stylish Onliners Part#2 - End

Salaam, ladies :D Do you remember my last post about Centro Most Stylish Onliners?
Well, the second stage of the contest was held the next day, BUT the groups are separated to individuals. It means, no grouping anymore!!! AND my friends didn't have confidence to continue it!!!! AAAARRRGGHH I became the one and only girl who wears hijab that time! -__-"
The second stage's theme was "Nautical", and onliners should wear their outfit (no borrowing at Centro this time).
Wanna see what others wear? They're sooo stylish! And the most embarrassing moment was to walk on stage like a model, hahahahaha...
Where's my photo? Hehehee I don't have any proper pict of myself -___-"
From 45 contestants, only left 14 goes to the next round. We all get Rp 100.000 shopping voucher, alhamdulillah :D

And at the third stage, the theme was "Colorburst: Revlon". It means pinkish-orangey-purplish color.
AAAAANDDDD 10 contestants were chosen to go to the final round, getting Rp 1.000.000 shopping voucher!! I GOT IT!!! Alhamdulillaaaahhh :D (see my picture? I looked happy didn't I? :p)
source of pict: Nia Vaniari

Big Dilemma for The Final Round
The truth was, i got a dilemma to do the final round. The contest was held on Sunday noon, and I got a ticket to Denpasar at Sunday, early flight! (It's for working, not holiday, hehehe)

And the Rp 1 million shopping voucher was only valid for the shopping rally at final round!!!
Wawawawawaaaa... the work shall be done at Sunday night!

Then my decision was, rescheduling the ticket. Aaaaaa it was soooo hectic!!! Paying ticket rescheduling at Juanda in the morning, going to Galaxy Mall for the final at 11 a.m, and must be at the airport at 15.00 for flight at 15.55 p.m.

The final round itself was soooooo fun yet hectic & tiring.
Imagine this: Contestants were given Rp 1million voucher, and only 30 MINUTES to shop! Including fitting, paying at cashier (and you know the queue at weekend?), and styling ourselves wherever you find a place to change your clothes!!

Running here and there looking what shall i buy. What is good enough for the contest, and is good enough to be worn at my real life?? My choice: Pleated skirt (I've been wanting it since the few days before) & batwing top. And I must buy inner top because I didn't bring it from my house -__-" Lucky I found empty fitting room, so I could finish  styling on time :D
And I still left some Rp 100.000 vouchers :) I'll give it to my mom.

Tadaaaaaa.... here is me & some other contestants, styling with Centro's items :D
source of pict: Centro fan page
Why I put my picture larger than the others???? Because this is MY BLOG wahahahahahhh :))

I left the contest earlier (there should be some little presentation about the outfit but I took permission) coz I must catch my plane! The best look were chosen for an additional Rp 1million, and I didn't join until the end. So bye bye additional 1 million, but still, alhamdulillah, thanks Centro for the great experience (and shopping vouchers i got ^^)

Do you like my look?? It's somehow looked like a gypsy :p The effort was less than 30 minutes, and my body was shaking greatly (panic panic panic!) :D and i was the only one wearing jilbab! (umm, well, not really, coz some boys wore turban :P)
Vote my picture here :D Thank youuuuuu
*smooch*
PS: to like the picture, firstly you must like the centro's page ^^
And you can see what others wear, too... Fun!

I immediately knew I would make this recipe when I saw it in the Everyday Food - July/August 2011 issue. The recipe called for a smooth & creamy tapenade but I wanted to keep mine chunky for this recipe - I am so glad I did! I loved the tender and juicy pork with the olive crust - the

Domains Yahoo Review

Domains Yahoo Not long ago I had been looking for as well as inexpensive as well as dependable website name registrar. Some thing inexpensive however useful. We had been searching as well as realized that yahoo had been carrying out a marketing as well as providing website name enrollment from an excellent cost. $4.98. How could you defeat it?

Three Olive Tapenade

I was going to buy some tapenade at the store for my Grilled Tomatoes Tapenade recipe but after seeing the price for a small container I decided to make it at home. I used a few leftover black olives, some green olives with pimentos, and kalamata olives. I chopped them all up and tossed them with a bit of garlic, balsamic vinegar, and olive oil. This tapenade works perfectly with the above tomato

Choosing Where You Will Invest

There are several different types of investments, and there are many factors in determining where you should invest your funds. Of course, determining where you will invest begins with researching the various available types of investments, determining your risk tolerance, and determining your investment style – along with your financial goals.

If you were going to purchase a new car, you would do quite a bit of research before making a final decision and a purchase. You would never consider purchasing a car that you had not fully looked over and taken for a test drive. Investing works much the same way.
You will of course learn as much about the investment as possible, and you would want to see how past investors have done as well. It’s common sense!

Learning about the stock market and investments takes a lot of time… but it is time well spent. There are numerous books and websites on the topic, and you can even take college level courses on the topic – which is what stock brokers do. With access to the Internet, you can actually play the stock market – with fake money – to get a feel for how it works.

You can make pretend investments, and see how they do. Do a search with any search engine for ‘Stock Market Games’ or ‘Stock Market Simulations.’ This is a great way to start learning about investing in the stock market.

Other types of investments – outside of the stock market – do not have simulators. You must learn about those types of investments the hard way – by reading.

As a potential investor, you should read anything you can get your hands on about investing…but start with the beginning investment books and websites first. Otherwise, you will quickly find that you are lost.

Finally, speak with a financial planner. Tell them your goals, and ask them for their suggestions – this is what they do! A good financial planner can easily help you determine where to invest your funds, and help you set up a plan to reach all of your financial goals. Many will even teach you about investing along the way – make sure you pay attention to what they are telling you!

Two And A Half Cents

I really don't like TV shows that focus on low-income families and treat these families as somewhat entertainment-commodities. One of said shows would be "Jika Aku Menjadi". In this show, a guest star (usually a female) is required to live and work with a low-income family for a couple of days, and in between, she would cry and tell the viewers how sad she is to see how much this family "suffer" and struggle on a daily basis, and that she should be more thankful to God for having a better life than them. That boils me.

You see, doing such is no different than walking down the street and approach a random hawker and say, "oh my, your life is so tough. Thank God I have a better life". No matter how "poor" someone is or some people are, we should never belittle their status. I mean, seriously, you cry in front of someone you consider poor, because you're sad that he or she is so poor? Imagine how the poor person would feel. He/she will feel poorer, because someone is making it clearer for him/her that he/she is extremely poor.

I remember a guest star of the TV show giving her comments which more or less sounded like this: "I'm so sad, (cries), because he works so hard (cries), and it's so lonely here (cries). This man works every day picking up tree sticks and gets only Rp.10.000 a day, while I can spend so much for a single lunch (cries). There's no entertainment here, no shops, nothing. I always complain back in the city, while in fact there's so much entertainment there. We have cinemas, malls (cries). I can't imagine living his life".

And how does saying such a thing make that man feel any good?

Wouldn't it be much nicer if we actually made him feel better instead of poorer? Why do we need to emphasize on things he (currently) doesn't have and point out in front of his face that his life is "so poor"? Instead, we should appreciate his hard work whatever his "job" is, no matter how much he earns. We should remind him of how lucky he is, because he is given such good health and strength. We should tell him how much we envy his simple, humble life in the village, because life in the city is full of complexities. We should provide him the faith that he can make a betterment in life if he works harder. We should support him to never feel disheartened, for life, no matter what, works in many different ways. And we guide him with whatever knowledge or information we have, so he can be inspired. If this is done, then providing him (and his family) some cash at the end of the show as a capital for him to start a (better) job would be more relevant.

Helping people is not supposed to be done only by (giving) money. But by (giving) moral support. And respect.

Advance Methods Of Saving Money

Saving is basically putting aside money or a way to utilize your present income for future use. One saves for several reasons such as for a college education, buying a new car, for a new TV set you wish to acquire in three to four months time, for down payment on a home, or to provide for yourself when retirement comes.

As much as there are several reasons for saving, there are likewise many methods in which one can save. In most instances, the best method can be determined by whatever plans you have for the future.
1.    Savings accounts. When saving for just a short period or for emergency purposes, consider opening a savings account passbook, as it is in this method that you can easily gain access to your funds.

Great for both long and short term savings, you can deposit and withdraw money to your account and earn interest, based on your average daily balance. A minimum balance is required to be maintained though, and you are charged with a penalty should you fail to maintain it.

2.    Checking account with interest.  Here one can benefit from checking account conveniences, while your deposits gain interests. Generally these types of accounts grants privileges such as limitless withdrawal and check writing, access to ATM and bill payments that can be done online.

This method typically requires a daily maintaining balance of at least $2,000.

3.    Money market insured accounts. For long-termed goals, this method is ideal, as it generally offers a much higher rate of interest compared to a regular or standard savings account.

The interest rate usually is dependent on the amount of money in your bank account; larger balance means higher interest.

4.    “CD” or Certificates of Deposit.  This is a savings method requiring you to “loan” your money to your financial agency for a certain time frame, usually ranging from thirty days up to five years. Here, the longer the time span again, means higher interest.

Keep in mind that usually insurance companies offer better deals on interests compared to banks, so before you invest, compare rates first!

At certain times, when your goal is many years away, it can be a wiser decision to save money in a certain way that you are not drawn on using it other than the main reason for saving it. Deciding on the right financial agency such as a bank, credit union or insurance firm can bring about a lot of benefit in your finances.

Flyer Design: Cutey Elegant

Hehehehe actually I don't have a theme. It's not cutey elegant. It's just pouring what my mood was, while designing.
Good mood creates pretty good design :p Thanks to Adobe Photoshop.

Him & Transformers 3

"I don't care. You have to write in your blog that Transformers is the best movie in the world. If not, I'll hack into your account and write it myself. I really think they actually exist, you know?"

Centro: A New Star Has Born

Lucky meee, being invited to the grand opening of the first Centro dept. store in Surabaya :D
Met some new onliners (well, I raaareeelyyy seen Surabaya's fashion blogger), and found out that one of them came from the same junior high school as me! Aha! I knewww i've seen her face :p
From left to right: Merry, me, Dista, Andri (same junior high!), and Kanya. I love Dista's vintage style heheheh.
There were also Surabaya's Cak & Ning (Mr & Miss Surabaya), Ferry Salim as the MC, Andre Aksana & the beautiful Olla Ramlan (wow she's much more prettier than whom I saw at TV!)

Then a fashion show was held, showing Centro's newest collections. Hehehe I'll only post the kaftan collections, as they are loose and flowy and long and hijab friendly ;D So colorful.
which one do you like the most? I saw some prettier kaftans at the show, but the picture was blurrrryyy -__-"

Then the guests were allowed to do "the first walk" to the new store! Yayyy!!
Ended the event with a big grin :D Received a goodie bag, contained an ethnic necklace! Thanks Centro!!
Whoaaa I became Surabaya's socialite! I'm readyyy to parrrteeehhhh all night loong... ehehhehh kidding, guys. I'm still an introverted silly shy humble and culun girl :D

Caprese Baked Eggs AND a Giveaway (GIVEAWAY CLOSED - WINNER ANNOUNCED)

This is my new favorite breakfast. I know I say that a lot, but I really, really, mean it this time. This is a quick and simple recipe to prepare and it tasted so delicious! I loved the flavor of the basil with the cooked tomatoes and the over easy egg. I served my egg with a piece of rustic bread for dipping into the yolk. I highly recommend this healthy recipe.

On the Rack

Clothes are beautiful when they are lined up together like these, aren't they? One of my silly obsessions. Clothes hanging peacefully in their homes, a.k.a the closets.

Blog update : I'm still alive and busy catching my own tail. I don't know why it is irresistible to do so. plus I'm drooling like tap water too. JK. Truth is it's almost the biggest juiciest national holiday here in Indonesia, Idul Fitri, and I got more deadlines than I could handle right now. Please stick around, I'll be back as usual :)
