History and Background of the World Labor Day (mayday) May 1st

Every May 1st, the workers from around the world commemorate the great event that is a demonstration of the workers in the United States in 1886, which demanded the implementation of eight hours of work. This demand associated with the current environment, when the workers were forced to work for 12 to 16 hours per day.

The first strike of the working class in the United States occurred in 1806 by workers Cordwainers. The strike brought to who  court and also raised the fact that the working class in that era worked from 19 to 20 hours a day. Since then, the struggle to demand reduction working hours become a common agenda of the working class in the United States.
There are two people that is considered to have contributed an idea to honor the workers, Peter McGuire and Matthew Maguire, a machine worker from Paterson, New Jersey. In 1872, McGuire and 100,000 workers went on strike demanding a decrease in working hours. He went on talking with the workers and unemployed people, lobbying the city government to provide jobs and overtime pay. McGuire became known as "bullies peace of society."

In 1881, McGuire moved to St. Louis. Louis, Missouri and began to organize carpenters. Finally established a unity consisting of a carpenter in Chicago, with McGuire as Secretary General of "United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America." The idea of organizing workers according to their trades spread around the country. McGuire and laborers in other cities planned a holiday for workers on the first Monday in September in between Independence Day and Thanksgiving Day.

On September 5, 1882, the first Labor Day parade was held in New York City with 20,000 participants carrying banners that read 8 hours, 8 hours rest, 8 hours recreation. Maguire and McGuire played a key role in organizing this parade. In subsequent years, the idea spread and all states celebrated.

In 1887, Oregon became the first state to make it a public holiday. In 1894. Presider Grover Cleveland signed a law that made the first week of September, official national public holiday.

First International Congress was held in September 1866 in Geneva, Switzerland, attended by various elements of workers' organizations around the world. Congress sets a demand to reduce working hours to eight hours a day, the previous (still in the same year) has made the National Labor Union in the U.S.: As these constraints represent the general demands of the United States working class, the changing demands of the congress has become common ground the working class worldwide.

One may set as the day the world working class struggle in the Congress of 1886 by the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions for, besides giving the moment demands eight hours a day, give a new spirit of working class struggle that reached a massive in that era. May 1 was chosen because in 1884 the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions, inspired by the success of labor action in Canada in 1872 [1], requires eight hours of work in the United States and entered into force on May 1, 1886.

On May 1, 1886, approximately 400,000 workers in the United States held a huge demonstration to demand the reduction of their working hours to 8 hours a day. This action lasted for 4 days from the date of May 1.

Large demonstrations that took place since April 1886 was initially supported by around 250 thousand workers. Within two weeks enlarged to around 350 thousand workers. City of Chicago is the heart of the movement followed by about 90 thousand workers. In New York, the same demonstration was followed by about 10 thousand workers, in Detroit followed by 11 thousand workers. Demonstrations also spread to various cities such as Louisville and Baltimore demonstration unite white and black workers. Until May 1, 1886, demonstrations spread from Maine to Texas, and from New Jersey to Alabama, followed by half a million workers in the country. These developments also provoked a great reaction from the business people and local government officials at that time. Through Chicago's Commercial Club, spent approximately U.S. $ 2,000 to purchase equipment in order to deal with machine gun demonstrations.

Peaceful demonstration demanding the reduction of working hours is over with the victims and the unrest. About 180 police confronting demonstrations and ordered that the demonstrators disperse. A bomb exploded near the cordon. The police were indiscriminate firing workers who were demonstrating. As a result the victim fell from the unions on May 3, 1886, four workers were killed and dozens others injured. With alleged involvement in a bombing eight labor activists were arrested and imprisoned. As a result of this action, the police apply the prohibition against any worker demonstrations. But the workers do not simply give up and in 1888 returned to action with the same demands. In addition, also decided to re-do the demonstration on May 1, 1890.

In July 1889, the World Socialist Congress held in Paris to set the events in the U.S. on May 1 as a day of workers of the world and passed a resolution containing:

A large international action should be organized on one particular day in which all countries and cities at the same time, on a day mutually agreed, all the workers demanded that the government is legally reduce working hours to 8 hours per day, and carry out all the results of the Congress International Labour France.

This resolution received a warm welcome from many countries and since 1890, the 1st of May, which is termed the May Day, celebrated by the workers in various countries, despite they got strong pressure from their government.

Finding Another Passion

When routines has gotten dull, 6 college friends decided to go see the world. This is their first adventure going abroad together to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Do you wonder, where is the next destination?

We did asked a large number of people, but in the end, only 6 of us can do the trip. Weeks before the trip was thrilling, I felt so excited.
And then we travelled. See the world. So interesting to learn new places, new cultures. Going to somewhere I could only see the pictures. Trying new foods. Getting lost in translation. I am totally falling in love with traveling.
When I got home, everything felt like a dream. Empty inside my heart. Then, I can't wait to experience another adventure pretty soon I hope :)

I've forgotten my joy for creativity, and now, traveling is my passion. Hehehh.. kidding :p

Now I need to earn more & save more for the next triiipppp :D
Details on the backpacking trip coming soon.

A First Taste of San Antonio

San
Sometimes you visit a place and experience just enough to know you want to come back. That's how I feel about San Antonio, famous for the Alamo, Tex Mex food and the riverwalk. Moments after arriving as I saw the flat barges on the river, I immediately thought of Mexico, and indeed, Mexico is just a few hours away by car.

Shiner Bock
But Mexico isn't the only influence, San Antonio has German heritage too since Germans settled in Texas Hill Country starting in the 1830's. That's why you find German style beer, which it turns out is awfully refreshing with spicy food or humid weather or both.

So it actually makes a lot of sense that John Besh would open up an outpost of his NOLA restaurant Lüke in San Antonio. The food is inspired by the Swiss, German and French food he learned to cook while living in Europe and the New Orleans style food he grew up eating, and of course a focus on what's local. At Lüke you can dig into Texas raised chicken or gulf shrimp "en cocotte" or jaegerschnitzel and somehow, it all makes sense.

The Majestic
The restaurant is located in the the Embassy Suites San Antonio Riverwalk hotel, which just recently opened. I hadn't stayed in an Embassy Suites hotel in a long time but I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms and lobby were spacious, and design elements mirrored the rambling natural feel of the riverwalk, which is right below the large picture windows on the ground floor. The location was great for poking around downtown and exploring by foot, taking in a bit of the fabulous Art Deco and Neo-Gothic revival architecture.

covered market
Just a few blocks from the hotel, I enjoyed the Museo Alameda, with its combination of art and cultural displays especially the Siqueiros, Tamayo and Rivera paintings and the historical recreation of a small local shop. Just outside the museum is the covered market, which feels very much like a tourist market in Mexico. I'm sorry I missed the actual farmers market!

Mi Tierra
It was too crowded with Fiesta revellers for me to get a table at Mi Tierra, a cafe, panaderia and a cultural landmark in San Antionio. But I did get a sneak peek...

Fiesta!
...and also of the colors of Fiesta. I love this smiling face!

taco
taco
sopapillas
Another highlight for me was actually my breakfast at Taco Taco, another more recent dining institution and so typical of San Antonio where more often than not a blend of cultures and influences is what makes the city all the more interesting. Here a Greek woman makes her versions of Tex Mex food and the locals can't get enough. In fact they stand in line for her superb homemade flour and corn tortillas wrapped around chorizo, scrambled eggs and super creamy refried beans. Is the secret to her tender tortillas olive oil? Is it Greek honey drizzled on the I-can't-stop-eating-them sopapillas? Who knows. And really it doesn't matter. Taco Taco like the rest of San Antonio seems to embody fusion in all the right ways. It feels good and tastes even better.

My thanks to the Embassy Suites and the San Antonio CVB for hosting me on my first trip to San Antonio

Greek Quinoa

I found some quinoa in my cupboard that I needed to use up so I decided to make a Greek style quinoa. I added some parsley, feta cheese, kalamata olives, red onion, and grape tomatoes to the cooked quinoa for a healthy and delicious side dish. I loved the flavors and textures of this recipe and my entire family liked it. Greek Quinoa:Recipe and photos by For the Love of Cooking.net1/2 cup of

Gigantomastia unilateral or bilateral (breast disease)

In the life of a woman has a different role and nature of a man. Their responsibilities were not the same. A woman has a role ranging from pregnancy, childbirth, to raising children. Pregnancy and childbirth can not be done by a man. It is the nature of a woman who makes a woman different from a man and equal with men.

The role which is owned by a woman is unique. Hence, a woman also has a unique body shape that is different from a man. One of them, both women and men have two breasts. However, in women both breasts had been developed in line with the occurrence of puberty. While male breast did not develop.
Remember this picture for Adult only and It's terrible

Breast composed of connective tissue, glands, and fat tissue. All parts were covered by skin. Gland with the help of the hormone prolactin, produced milk. And milk is excreted through the nipple (nipple) which is right in the middle of each breast. When a woman gave birth, the levels of the hormone prolactin in the body increases and stimulates the glands to produce milk. With the help of suction from the baby, then the milk out that we know as the ASI (Air Susu Ibu).

Normal breast has the same shape and size between the left and right. However, there are also women who experience disruption in her breast. One of the problems that can occur in the breast is gigantomastia unilateral or bilateral (breast enlargement in excess, either in one breast or both).

Gigantomastia unilateral or bilateral common in female peripubertal (around puberty). This is a rare case. In gigantomastia, occurred the development and abnormal growth of the breast. This not only resulted in physical disorders but also mental disorders. Because of such magnitude, the breasts will hang down and the skin around it will experience a great attraction which may result in tearing of the skin.

Gigantomastia consists of three types, namely:
1. Gigantomastia that occurs in peripubertal, better known by the name of Juvenile hypertrophy of the breast (JHB)

2. Gigantomastia that occur during pregnancy

3. Gigantomastia that occurs in adult women with no known cause.

In this article will discuss the Juvenile hypertrophy of the Breast. JHB is a very rare case. The cause is very difficult to determine, but the disorder describe the organ hypersensitivity due to disruption of endocrine regulation.

One such case ever reported in the U.S.. A 30-year-old woman has a problem with the size of her breasts that it is not symmetrical between the right to the left. Enlargement of the left breast which has been started from 15 years ago when he puberty. Have an enlarged left breast a more rapid and progressive or continuous. At the time she conceived, her left breast enlargement did not increase rapidly. However, it does not produce breast milk, so that only her right breast is normal that the issue of breastfeeding for infants. There was no history of any hormonal treatment including the use of NSAID drugs on him and his family. Her skin became very thin because of the pull of the left breast so that the blood vessels (vena superficialis) was visible and nipple enlarged or dilated. No enlarged lymph nodes. There is also no abnormalities in his blood test results. In April 2004, he underwent surgery mammaplasty, and the results are extraordinary. Both breasts are now symmetrical and there is little scarring tissue. Two years later she underwent a re-examination, and gigantomastia not happen again.

JHB can be overcome with two kinds of surgery, namely:
1. Mastectomy.
Mastectomy means the removal of the troubled breast intact.

2. Mammaplasti reduction.
Mammaplasti cuts breast reduction is problematic according to the image that was created earlier. The troubled breast shaped into appropriate and symmetrical with normal breast.

JHB Patients will usually give the complaints such as pain in the breast, waist and neck pain, and the deformity of the spine. But the main thing is the problem of psychological and social problems. JHB Patients will be difficult to find clothes that fit their size. They also withdrew from social life and activities outside the home. So in addition to treatment by surgery and administration of drugs, psychological factors must also be considered from the patient.

Magnification as in JHB can also occur in other diseases, including:
1. Giant fibroadenoma
This disease often occurs in young women, aged 21-25 years. Lump is very mobile (easy moving), and essentially free of the skin, can arise because of lost motion. Bumps do not feel pain and firmly bounded. Consistency resembles normal breast. Can be great but still mobile. Rapid growth occurs during pregnancy, lactation (breastfeeding), and menopause. Presumably it is related to the hormone estrogen.

2. Phyllodes tumor
In this disease, lumps enlarges rapidly as in JHB. And also there is a change in the skin. Phyllodes tumors have a heterogeneous and bounded consistency firm. While in JHB, consistency harder and diffus.

3. Gestational gigantomastia
Breast enlargement that occur because of pregnancy. But this is very rare.

Egg Salad Sandwich

We spent the holiday at our dear friends house last weekend. While we were there my friend Lori made me a delicious egg salad sandwich with the left over Easter eggs. She served the egg salad on the best bread ever... Dave's Killer Good Seed Bread. The egg salad would be tasty on any bread but I really loved the texture and flavor of this bread and it paired perfectly with the egg salad. Egg
