DIY Easy Clothing: Shawl-Hoodie Vest

Yihaaaaa :D Finally I'm back with DIY Tutorials.. don't you miss it? wehehehehe (No, Tia, we don't miss it)
Soooo, you girls probably have some shawls at your wardrobe. Here's a few steps to turn your cotton shawl into hoodie vest. Well, 'hoodie' things is so in trend right now, eh?
Hana Tajima | Hana Tajima's Maysaa | Ria Miranda's Hoodie | Siti Juwariyah (wearing Jenahara) | Puput Utami | Nur Zahra Indonesia

To make hoodie vest, you need:
Cotton shawl (mine is from Kamiidea 200 x 60 cm)
1 pin
1 brooch (if needed)

1. Wear the shawl over your head. This is to create 'hoodie' effect.
2. Take the outer side of your shawl to the back of your body. Make sure the shawl is at the same length.
3. Pin the shawl at the back of your blouse. Yes, your blouse. This way, your "vest" is more secured.

VOILA! As simple as that :D yayyy!!
Now you could create some improvisation.
1. The back view of finished hoodie vest
2. Hoodie vest worn as it is.
3. The shawl at the shoulder is folded to the neck (so the "sleeve" is gone). The "hoodie" is not being worn.
4. Hoodie vest worn with jacket. The vest itself is buttoned by a brooch.

Is that all, Tea?
Well, you could create another style.
1. Grab some fabric from the center of your chest (from left & right shawl, probably 7 cm).
2. Pull up a little bit.
3. Pin at the center.

Voila! It has more drapery ;D

Do you have more ideas? Or do you feel like wanna try? Please share with me yaaaa ^^
Thanks for reading *smooch*

Trying a New Hijab Style

Turban Look-Alike.
Wore this style of veil 2 weeks ago, to go to a wedding. Using pressed paris hijab (jilbab paris wiru), and inner hijab.
I was wearing a bolero. Does bolero act like cape to cover our chest? Ummm, I'm not sure :-/ so better try to look for another idea of hijab wear, Tea.

BTW, a better way to wear crossed veil is by wearing shawl, like Aishi Lely do here, she posted a video tutorial too from Juliasayz.

T-Shirt Revamped To Tulle Dress

Just remembered I got this... A plain T-Shirt, got revamped by adding some fabric yoyos (flowers) and tulle for tutu skirt at the waist. And cut the neck line, and shorten the sleeves. Done this at February 2011 for T-Shirt Remake Competition but didn't win. The theme was "Valentine"... Mine was "floral bouquet". Actually the design itself has 2 lollipop inserted, to add cuteness hehehe.

Ahhh you should see the other competitors, theirs were sooo creative! I only got them captured by my cellphone, and the picture quality is so no no no no...

Enough talking. Enjoy :)
Just add some fabric yoyos and sew tulle around the waist!

I said bye bye to this thing yesterday. Cut it into half. Probably I'll turn the "skirt" into tulle bag... And the upper side? I'll take the fabric yoyos to create cute brooches :) lalalalaaaa...

DIY: Reversible Batik Vest

Done making a simple vest yesterday. Started at 6 am in the morning, finished in less than 2 hours, and wore it to office :D
(click pictures for larger images)
(sorry for the disturbing face and bad quality of pictures heheheh)

HOW TO MAKE IT?
I found 2 sheets of batik fabric, they were scraps of mom's uniform :p
Mine were @ 105 x 50 cm. You can have them larger. No need to measure seriously.

In photo: (1) cut rounded the bottom; (2) have the wrong side (bad side of fabric) facing you, sew the sides but leave the top unsewn; (3) turn out, now you have good sides facing you. Pin the top side for easier sewing; (4) sew the top; (5) make arm holes. Tips: use your blouse to mark where the arm holes should be.

You're done. You can wear it for many styles... wear the bottom side for top, wear as cowl vest, wear it inside out, or whatever, just as you like.

For the arm holes, I used blanket stitch (tusuk felton). Couldn't think the fastest way to make them neater coz I was about to go to office. Yesterday was batik day, right? Heheh. But actually the blanket stitch was the-most-time-consuming part of the creation. So if you can suggest another easy way to stitch the arm holes, I am happy to hear that :D (kepikiran pake bisban tapi gak ada di rumah)

Design: Trouser

Another task for design class: no-ordinary trouser. Hmmmm I'm wondering do I have the sense of fashion? I just hope I'm not a fashion disaster hahahaha... Weeks after weeks of lesson, I still get amazed by other designer's clothes and wondering how can they get the idea like that? Why can't I?
By the way this is the design:

Zipper accent, contrast colors.

1 Design per day?? Errr...

Assalamu'alaykum.. Hyaaa I know I've been a very bad bad blogger lately... Busy doing this or that and I've forgotten my sweet blog.. Well I've told you before, the reason of laziness: 1. Too lazy to do photoshoot of daily style (in fact my daily style doesn't deserve to be captured hahaha); 2. Too lazy to think something creative...
Well yeah, since I made this blog to be my canvas of creativity,,, lately I need a lot of effort to post something >.<

Anyway last week I was at Jakarta joining Breastfeeding Fair Bazaar. I met Wulan, the muslimah fashion blogger. She visited me at my boutique's booth. Too bad I didn't take a picture hehehe... She's just so adorable, and I wore a uniform.. Nice to meet you Wulan ^^

I've been thinking what am I gonna do with this blog? How if I post 1 design per day??? Errrrrrr.... sounds great but ummm it's a lot of effort!!  So maybe I will post 1 design per week, 1 daily style per week, and 1 DIY project per month. Pheww...

Today's design:
Waterfall outer
Really want to make this for my own :D Made by 2 colors of chiffon (reversible)...

DIY Ribbony Bow Cardigan

I once saw a cute ribbony cardigan at a boutique and I thought of make it by myself. So here I am, so excited at Sunday morning transforming my old piece of cardigan ^^

Plain grey cardigan + ribbons
= Ribbony Cardigan!

The first idea was to use safety pins for the bow (just like a brooch), but I'm running out of safety pins. So I sew the bow, and then I couldn't stop sewing those little beads.. Hmmm, a black polka dotted skirt would be perfect to match the cardi :)

Give some layers of lace drapery at the chest to hide your curve...
And for Javanese people, add some jasmine strings for head accessories ;)

Do I love purple??

Have you been in those times when you peek at your wardrobe and find nothing to wear? Nothing looks good on you, and then you'll just take the same piece of clothing that you wear over and over again?
Hehehe... I call it: Bad-clothes-day!

My go-to piece when the Bad-clothes-day come.

Stripey purple-grey shirt/denim skirt/big bag (I can put my laptop there)
I've been wearing those stripey purple shirt maybe hundreds of times... It's becoming shabby. Hmmm I think I should buy another go-to piece.

And when the mood of mix & matching comes...

Flower dress/bels/purple shirt/black cardigan.
Too bad that's not a real flowery dress (it's just a piece of fabric, hahaha)

PS:
I'm sorry if I have not replied your comments/visited your blogs, been busy lately... inshaAllah I'll try to catch up this weekend... ^^
For the dressup doll: Please wait for the next set and the boy version :)

DIY Paperdoll

The second paperdoll I made! ^o^ Yaaayyy...
When I knew that my previous paperdoll was downloaded by handmade beginnings and printed for her children, I felt sooo excited to make another paperdoll! This time, the paperdoll is much more simple. But I love this more :)

Breakfast at Tiffany's

I've bought a novel, Breakfast at Tiffany's, but haven't done reading it yet. It is said that Holly Golightly, the female character, is one of the most legendary-famous-stylish-woman at literature.

Source of picture: here
Then, why not making adaptation of her style? Using looklet.com is fun! ^^

Yeah, so simple. The modest and humble version of Holly!

Well, actually I've done a photo shoot of myself using black dress + necklace + eating Gery Chocolatos (miss Holly is a smoker, but we do not smoke, rite? :p). But due to the lack of jewelry, my style is not good to be published! Hahaha..

Good day!

PS: Thanks for riesta for giving me this award. Thank youuuuu ^^

DIY: Bag Organizer

Do you know bag organizer? Yup, small bag to put your scrappy belongings (cell phone, key, USB, tissue, bla bla) so that they won't be left when you change your bag (basically this product is created for GIRLS :D)

If you want to save money by making it your own, try this:

What's needed:
Yeah it's so easy. Of course you can make more compartments... Picture above was taken in hurry (not yet decorated) because I was so excited to put it on blog ^^
Yaayyyy... Now I have my own bag organizer!!!

What are the things you can't leave your home without?
For me: Cell phone, money, ID card, oil paper (hahaha), lip balm, idea book, and pen!

Gone fishing

Whoaa... first post of 2010!!
Hehehe... I'll post some topics:
  • Alhamdulillah, it's been a lot of joy since I bravely wrote my hidden creativity to this blog. It's pretty relieving, hahaha... Thank yooouuu dear aifa for giving me Creative Blog Award (you should check her blog, she's soo talented!)

  • Last Saturday I was in a not-girly-mood.. I didn't want to wear something sweet. So, I put on boyish clothes. I've just realized, looks like I wanna go fishing -___-'

Shirt: Kota (it's my mother's, yeah she bought it in boy's boutique), vest: Korean (given when I was at 6th grade. Surprise it still fit me!)
  • I've been really really really dreaming this to happen. My sketches. My own boutique.

I hope I can realize my sketches!

Well, sorry for being so me-me-me... Have you ever felt something that makes you sooo excited, like there are so many butterflies on your stomach, you want to write down your ideas and make a to-do list, but don't know what to do first? Hehe, I'm feeling it now... Ya Allah please help me to realize my dreams (and my reader's too), amin.
Have a great day!

New Year, New Jewelry :p

Last scheduled post of 2009: Another DIY Project!
Take a look around your room. There must be soo many unused stuffs!
Let's make an eclectic necklace ^^
Eclecticism is a kind of mixed style in the fine arts: "the borrowing of a variety of styles from different sources and combining them" (Wikipedia)

What you need:
Small frame (wedding souvenir), unused necklace, ribbon, eye catching picture, and any decorative stuff (here I used self-made-ribbon-rose). Just arrange it all together (glue/sew) and you'll have a new necklace!

Welcome 2010 ^^ hope you have a great holiday :D

DIY: Pink Rose Ring

Long time not doing DIY projects! I have some photos for blog materials (from fashion to DIY projects) but I think I'll save them as scheduled posts when I get too busy to blog ^_^ Here's a DIY project I did yesterday.

Don't you love seeing this beautiful-fresh-pink rose? I wanna eat it!

Rose picture was taken from damiengallagher.

Want to add one to your finger? I've created some roses from paper and I guess it can be a cute ring...

What you need: wire & paper rose (make it yourselves or buy at craft shop). Curl the wire at your finger!

Well, at my finger it's not as cute as I had imagined.. So I think it is better for pencil accessories! Hahaha..

Do you want it? I'll give it for free! (I guess no one would want to wear it, hehehehehe)

*Materials I suggest to make better ring: good quality wire (bigger diameter) and clay rose

PS: the green ribbon picture is actually photoshop brush from here.

Again, fashion post.

I didn't expect my blog to be a fashion blog. When I first create this blog, I thought, "This is my canvas to pour what's hidden inside my creative brain!". Well, I guess mix & matching clothes are parts of creativity, too :p
1. Denim dress (Gedebage, IDR 15K) + cardigan, wore this for shopping with my mom today
2. Denim dress + sweater + necklace
3. Denim dress + shirt + pillowcase a.k.a sarung bantal (used as Obi, wahahaha)
See? One dress can be mixed into so many style. Love this denim dress! :D

And I'm wasting my time doing the last mix & match. Tadaaaa...

Don't try this at home!! Or people will think that you're a weirdo!

PS: I make a new signature at the corner of my pictures ^_^

Tuesday, December 22, 2009

I'm not mourning. I just wear black.

On my last trip to Bandung, I went to Gedebage market with my friend Danar. I bought this LBD (Long Black Dress--or coat?) for IDR 20K ($ 2). Yeah it's second hand, that's why it's so cheap!
But I love this dress (or coat? or abaya?). And it's fun to mix & match!

I'm only 22 but sometimes I wear something that makes me look much older. Some of my friends call me "Granny" -___-

PS: Pink shawl on the last picture is my DIY project hehehe! I cut the fringe from this previous project. ^_^

Marc for Muslimah?

Sorry for the late posting, been busy for a while, and I haven't blogwalking to your blogs :(
But sure I will :) Oh my, it feels like time is too short & I can't be online for some times T_T

Here's some of Marc's collection (from Marc Jacob) for spring 2009. The transformations are dedicated for muslimah out there who wish . I like the vibrant colors of this collection, it makes me happy hehehe.

Modification: skirt

Modification: skirt & sleeves

Modification: sleeves + legging

In picture 1, wearing a jacket for outer wear is a good way to cover your chest. Viva modest fashion!!
In picture 3, I think the shoes doesn't match with leggings hahahaa...

DIY Shawl & First Award, yayy!! ^o^

Remember the Pink Dress from the previous DIY Project?
I've been thinking to make the leftover material into a skirt, a short, or a vest, but i know they require some effort (to cut or sew) and i'm too lazy >__<
So? The effortless idea is: to use it as a SHAWL! No sewing or cutting needed!

You should visit Cotton.ink to see the original version of this shawl. Of course theirs are better than mine because their shawls are seamless (convertible). But I'm pretty happy to play with my DIY shawl, hehehe. Next: make it into fringe shawl or just acid-wash it B-)
BTW if you like cotton.ink products, go vote them here.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
And.... the happy thing this week about blogging is i got my first award from Ninneta!! Yaaayyyyy!!! ^o^
spongebob
And I'll pass this award to these blogger friends... Actually I wanted to give everyone but that will be a long long list, so I chose friends who commented the most since November :) Thank you, new friends ^^

Good night :)
